Stemedix: A Closer Overview of the Clinic

The clinic in question today is Stemedix™ Adult Stem Cell Therapy which is located at 970 Lake Carillon Drive, Suite 300in Saint Petesburg, Florida. 

After looking through the Stemedix website and multiple social media sources, origins of the company are not completely certain. The website advertises to have “U.S. Board-Certified Physicians: Trained medical staff experienced in your diagnosis and treatment.” However, it does not mention any of the physician names/ information so the only way to really get to know any Stemedix physician is to directly contact the facility's Care Coordinator.

After researching other sources and reading some reviews of the company, I found that Frederick Palmer and Kirk Armstrong could be the heads of the company, according to CorporationWiki, a digital public company directory (see image to the left). Reviews from multiple patient accounts in forums have referenced talking/ being in contact with Fred Palmer, who seems to be Stemedix’s Care Coordinator and main sales representative
of the clinic (see image below). After reading more reviews, the Stemedix actual company seems to be more of an intermediate consulting firm that will put the patient in contact with physicians, implying that Stemedix does not perform the actual stem cell treatments. Instead, Stemedix charges extra to put you in contact with that physician.

      Since the general website lacked any physician information, I looked at reviews of previous patients and found one common physician: Dr. Thomas Balshi. He is a pre-med graduate from Boston College and got his graduate degree in microbiology at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School. He got his undergraduate medical degree from the American University (of the Caribbean) School of Medicine and served residency at St. Anges Hospital. Dr. Balshi is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Physician Specialties for Dermatology and Dermatological Surgery. According to US News Health, Dr. Balshi’s FL State Medical License is currently active through 2016. Today, Dr. Balshi founded company Balshi Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in Delray Beach, Florida. 

While Dr. Balshi is a legitimate doctor, he is a dermatologist. How is a dermatologist qualified to perform stem cell therapy?
